Teacher Hacks for Different Types of Kids

Things that help:

  • Concrete directions

  • Being direct

  • Keeping stimuli down

Things that do not typically work:

  • Punishing the whole class (they take it personally)

  • Sarcasm

  • Vague instructions

  • Too much work or too difficult work

Things that help:

  • Routine

  • Note taking help (paper with notes on it or simplified notes)

  • Change what you do every 10-15 min

  • Have them help you with a problem (call on them and just get simple answers from them as you do the problems)

Things that do not typically work:

  • Lots of disruptions

  • Chaotic classroom

  • Letting them stay unfocused in class for long periods
